We are still discussing the month of Iyar. Let’s do a little deeper dive into the manna.
The word Manna (Hebrew word man or man-hu) means “What is it”
In the previous blog, I mentioned that manna fell from heaven during the night. The Israelites gathered the Manna before the sun came out. This dewy substance was unknown to them therefore, they repeatedly asked: “What is it?” later also known as “bread of the wilderness.”
Interestingly, the manna appeared to them through Divine Light or Creative Light. It would have been destroyed by the created Light – the sun. The month of Iyar is related to Light. The Creative Light of God, where anything is possible.
Coriander seed
Manna was undoubtedly a result of a miraculous manifestation, nothing found on earth could be compared to it.
“The house of Israel called the bread manna; it was like coriander seed, white, and it tasted like flat pastry (wafers) made with honey.” Exodus 16:31
“The manna was like coriander seed, and it looked like bdellium.” Numbers 11:7
We see in some of the accounts in scripture that the manna was as they perceived it to be. What if their perception of it was different? Would the manna have been different? Could it have been whatever they called it to be?
Think about it. It was a dewy substance. Dew is like water and could dissolve in your hand very quickly. However, they could make this dewy watery substance into bread that tasted like honey.
The question to us today is what’s in your hand? Do you know? What are you creating with what is given to you through His light?
Gather according to your need
“When they measured it with an omer, he who had gathered a large amount had no excess, and he who had gathered little had no lack; every man gathered according to his need (family size).” Exodus 16:18
This is a really important Concept. The Lord tested to see if they will follow His instructions. They were complaining they didn’t have. When God provided, they needed to trust that tomorrow, will also be provided. And not gather up double. It was a test of faith.
Recently the Holy Spirit asked me: Do you know the boundaries of your faith? You see they didn’t need faith for a year. They only need faith for the day. And the next day and the next.
Sure there are things we are trusting God for that are so big and might feel far in the future. But we have to learn to take the faith for that BIG project, or dream, or whatever it might be and we need to reduce it, “break it up” all the way to one day. What are you trusting God for today? What is today’s step you need to take for that big thing in the future? Reduce it to a mustard seed until you know you have enough faith in that thing. It’s a build-up of faith. We accumulate just like the manna enough for the day.
Previously Unknown
“And he humbled you, and suffered you to hunger, and fed you with manna, which you knew not, neither did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD does man live.” Deuteronomy 8:3,16
Another meaning for manna or coriander is “The Word”. While they were gathering the manna it was Unknown to them. There was no form or substance to it. They had no framework for what the manna was.
God created through His word. Light, word, and energy. In the same way, we create as well. Understanding that you have the Light, word, and power of God living inside you causes an awareness of what you are creating. We create all the time by what we speak. Often we have things in our lives that we also call out, “what is it?” Not realizing that we were the creators of that thing. Because of a lack of understanding that we create through what we think, feel, and speak.
What is previously unknown to you became known through your word. Christ is the word. Live by the Power of His word. Have you tapped into the new word He is speaking over you? Are you speaking the language of Christ or the language of your trauma?
“ I am the Bread of Life [the Living Bread which gives and sustains life]. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the Bread that comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the Living Bread that came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread [believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior], he will live forever. And the Bread that I will give for the life of the world is My flesh (body).” John 6:48-51
Spiritual Meat
“And all [of them] were baptized into Moses [into his safekeeping as their leader] in the cloud and in the sea; and all [of them] ate the same spiritual food; and all [of them] drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ”. 1 Corinthians 10:2-4
The Word – Christ asks for a level of maturity. Being in Christ, knowing the Christ, and living from the place of freedom requires more than just a simple salvation prayer. It requires maturity to move on from an old foundation of what you were taught. Grow in the knowledge every day of the God you serve.
The Israelites complained because they had no idea of this God who redeemed them because they did not know Him fully. They were thinking like slaves instead of sons.
“Therefore let us get past the elementary stage in the teachings about the Christ, advancing on to maturity and perfection and spiritual completeness, [doing this] without laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of teaching about washings (ritual purifications), the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. [These are all important matters in which you should have been proficient long ago.]” Hebrews 6:1
You are not a victim in your life unless you choose to be. The manna represented the word, it became to them what they spoke over it. Do you know The word inside you, in your mouth, through your sound?
As you anoint yourself with coriander you bind yourself to The Word, the One. And loosen yourself from the limitations of this world.
